Budweiser

By Steve

So a Belgian beer company is trying to acquire BUD. Probably a good move considering how weak the dollar has become against European currencies and the strength of the brand.

The article I read on it had responses from about 900 idiots wanting to "keep it American". Half of them concluded their idiotic ramblings with "I am switching to Coors", which is relatively idiotic because I, for one, drink certain beers I like the taste of, not to smite other beer companies. The other half are switching to Miller. These are the true idiots. Miller as in SABMiller. SAB as in South African Brewing, who bought Miller a few years ago. Way to support America. I have a feeling these are the same people that boycott certain gas stations on certain days.

Sold Target Date Fund

Posted In: . By Steve

To speed up my asset-reallocation I decided to sell the T.Rowe Price Target date retirement fund that I hold in a Roth IRA in favor of 3 new funds. It was too hard to factor in the diversified, but dynamic asset mix of the target date fund into my plan.

Any way, the new purchases are a world bond fund, a TIPs fund, and an emerging markets stock fund. Sadly, they have all been performing very well over the past years, so I am probably in for a pullback, but in the grand scheme of things I don't care. If they get cheaper I can bring my average cost down by staying balanced, i.e., making additional purchases.

Overall, things are pretty well in-line with the exception of commodities, which I am still underweight. Waiting for a decent pullback has kept me, well, waiting. Here is my current allocation.

Charity

By Steve

After 92 posts to this blog I have reached 10 subscribers. I am tempted to do a roll call, but I am afraid how many of my own computers are being counted. I would guess at least 3.

Anyway, I am thinking I should do more (something) to help other people. Since I am lazy, this will involve me finding a charity to give money to. My wife does donate a lot of my clothes that she doesn't like to Goodwill, so that is a start I guess. I think I will aim for $20 a month. That should be enough to make me feel good without crippling the budget. Now I just need to find something I care about other than baseball, beer, and investing.
